Rating: 4 [ 4-1/2 stars -- One of Jen's more accessible movies ]
A lot of times when an artist decides to make the jump to movies, the quality of his/her albums falter. Sometimes it seems like Jennifer Lopez has the opposite problem -- either that, or the movies don't make a lot of sense. Fortunately that problem doesn't apply here.
Jennifer plays Mary Fiore, a single wedding planner who her father, Salvatore (Alex Rocco), desperately tries to set up with Massimo Lenzetti (Justin Chambers), a childhood friend of sorts. After a while Massimo even gives everyone else the idea that he and Mary are engaged. If things aren't hectic enough as it is, Mary's latest wedding involves Steven "Eddie" Edison (Matthew McConaughey), a man she met at the park that appeared to be single and coming on to her.
I enjoyed everything about this movie, although I couldn't understand why it took Mary so long to tell Eddie that she and Massimo weren't really engaged. Regardless of that, The Wedding Planner should stay in your DVD player for a long time.
Rating: 5 [ Dum dum de dum, dum de dum dum ]
You're the top wedding planner in the San Francisco area. You got a nice apartment, nice clothes and great friends. What else do you need? Well, Mary Fiore is missing one thing. Her dream guy. In an attempt to save her shoe, she almost gets rammed into by a dumpster, but Dr. Steve saves the day! When Mary's friend Penny gets involved, the nearly fatal collision turns into a romantic date. Matthew McConaughey as Dr. Steve Edison swoops Mary (Jennifer Lopez) off her feet in a dance that almost resulted in a steamy kiss. Mary sure seems to have it made!
In an undesirable twist, Dr. Steve turns out to be the groom of a huge wedding Mary is planning. If the wedding is successful, she will be made a partner at her Wedding Consultant Agency. Msry broke the one supreme rule of being a wedding planner--she fell for the groom.
As Mary is falling for an unavailable man, her father, played by Alex Rocco I, arranges a marriage for her with an Italien childhood friend, Matissimo (Justin Chambers), who used to eat mud and follow Mary around like a puppy dog. Aww, isn't that sweet?
How does it turn out? Who will Mary choose? Well, you'll have to see. I personally loved this movie. I am a sucker for romantic comedies and this one did it for me. I rented it and on the same day I went to buy it! It's a great movie for you girls to make your guys watch! This is a MUST SEE!!!
Rating: 4 [ Sticks to the tried & true romatic comedy formula ]
This movie was certainly entertaining and Jennifer Lopez was very engaging as a wedding consultant who becomes romantically involved with a client. The problem with the movie is that it sticks to a formula and is too predictable. The movie, "My Best Friend's Wedding," was a departure from the formula when there was a surprise as to who ended up successful in the romantic battle between two suitors. Here, there was the potential for the same sort of twist. Indeed, the table was set for the less predictable outcome to occur. But no!!!! Instead, we see. early on, sexual and emotional tension develop between the two main characters and it is perfectly predictable that after a few plot twists, they will end up getting married.
Jennifer Lopez was good in her role but Matthew McConaughey was a little less believable as a pediatrician who becomes her romantic interest. All in all, the movie was cute, but at one time or another, we have seen all the predictable plot twists, right down to the mad race to break up the wedding of the main charcter's love interest to someone else before it's too late (remember "The Graduate?). I give it four stars only because it is pretty good, mindless entertainment despite the film's utterly formulalisitic plot.
